Dance, Art & Fast Food

We had a good and eventful weekend.

Friday night we had a killer dance party with our friends.

Saturday, Brad volunteered to be a substitute tutor for someone who was going on vacation.  This is a different group of kids than he normally tutors.  Many of them have come straight from the Somali refugee camps.  This makes the kids wild and extremely difficult to teach.  After having a pencil thrown at him, one of the kids at the end of the session said to Brad, “Good bye Mr. Bread (they think this is his name), don’t come back tomorrow”.  Yikes!!!  Those 2nd graders are vicious!

We went to my art gallery debut Saturday night.  The C-note art show turned out to be really cool.  One of my pieces was “good enough” to be put in the front gallery for all to view as they walked in.  Though none of my pieces sold, it still felt really good to have my own work on display.

After the show we headed to our friends’ house.  We went to Mad Mex for half off food after 10 (the best deal in town if you don’t mind eating late and dealing with the college crowd) and then stopped by one of the neighboring bars where we witnessed some kick-ass break dancing.  That made us realize that we are all missing our calling in life - professional break-dancing.

Sunday evening our friend Jessica hosted a “Fast Food Nation” party/potluck.  Everyone came up with a type of fast food to make and share.  Brad and I chose to make White Castle Sliders, which surprisingly and unfortunately tasted just like the real deal.  After many hours of eating too much food, playing POGS ( Brad and I are trying to revive this 90’s game), and listening to our friends “spit truth” (the saying for our friends who tend to be a little too honest J) we returned to our cozy apartment and climbed into bed.

We ended the night with prayer and a short discussion and where we are at spiritually.  The question weighing heavily no our minds: Are we concentrating too much time on working and saving for the house while losing sight of our principles?  Or will our simple life standards and reliance on God return once we have the house and are doing “good works” we talk about here?
