It’s About To Get Serious

Switching to the car is the best thing that ever happened to our new lifestyle.

The van was too nice (nix mechanically).  We hadn’t left our life of possessions and materialism, we had simply packed a streamlined version of the comforts of our home into the back of a van.

It was a van, but we still had a large wardrobe, stores of food, a refrigerator of sorts, a stove, a toilet, a kitchen table and a bed.

We had also lost site of our principles.

We had abandoned the rules of society and replaced them not with a new way of life or a new system of thinking, but with new rules of our own.

Our original plan was to have no plan.  In the van we had everything planned.  Not planned enough for our family, but we had a general idea where we were headed, we knew where we could stay, what to cook and what to do in our free time.

Months ago, we thought we should just drive off from our apartment in Columbus one day and never come back.  But we didn’t have the balls to do it.

So we planned and we saved, we shopped around for the best deal (so we thought) on a van, on solar panels, on a new water tank and a new stove.

We considered all the things that we could do, and all of the things we didn’t want to do.

The destruction of the van is the best thing that ever happened to us.  Why?  Because all of the plans and preparations we had made… demolished.

This website itself was supposed to be a revolution against society, religion and the definition of life that we hold dear as Americans.  Instead it has become a travel log to keep our friends and family updated on our fairy tale adventures

The fairy tale is over.

Our ideas were formed over one phrase, one toast that we shared with countless friends over hard drinks, “One life (Says one)… Fuck it (responds in chorus)”.

So I must warn you: you are all fair game.

All bets are off, you are no longer under our protection.

If you are a member of the senseless religious tradition, if you may be offended by reality, if your ears are virgin and your eyes are pure, if you will be offended when your experiences with us are shared with others, then leave now.

Send your friends away.

Tell everyone that you know that you’ve made a terrible mistake and they should never visit this site again.

We are not here to please you.

We are not here to make friends.

We’re here to spread the love of Jesus at any cost.  If we must roll over you to do so, we will.

This is not a joke.  If you are prepared to be offended, then leave.

Just leave.

It’s about to get serious.

We each have only one life…

Sorry, we were only there for 24 hours and change.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I thought you guys were members of the “senseless religioius tradition”.  How are you going to “spread the love of Jesus” without religion?

I guess you already answered my question in your answers post.  Andy thinks you meant that you want to revolt against the way religion has developed in the U.S.  -Yeah, ok while very intriguing I’m still not sure you can call that a revolution against religion.  Feel free to prove me wrong.  (keep in mind that I am using “religion” as a broad term)

Also, I have a suggestion #2 for you both:  This is a philosophical suggestion.

I think your friend Jeff made a very interesting comment when he said that God is in control.  More or less, you guys have reiterated this point throughout your website. But at the same time, Brad, you write often that you plan to develop principles to live by as you go along your journey. I can’t help but to see a contradiction here.  Either God is in control or you are. Since there is no in-between, I would think that you will not have to work to “figure out” moral or philosophical guidelines that you will then live by.  God would show you.  Do you see what I am getting at here?  I would love to read your feedback on this.

Peace,

Kristin

Kristin,

Good questions.

I think we have different definitions of the word “religion”.  When I talk of religion, or the religious tradition, I mean the institution that we refer to as the Christian church.  I’m also referring to the manipulated ideology that puts going to church and being polite ahead of the ideals that Jesus spoke of.

We are not abandoning our belief in God, only the religion that has been created by humans.

Good point #2 as well.

God is in complete control.  What I mean by developing principles is putting the things that God teaches, tells and shows us into a way of life.

It’s not as if I wish to create the principles themselves, but to put into words the lifestyle that I think God is showing us.

If I’ve not answered the question, send us an e-mail at simplyonelife@gmail.com, that way I can start a new post, put some thought into and give you a really good, concise answer.

Thanks for all the comments.  You’re asking questions that I’m sure a lot of people have.
