We have realized that the house is not going to happen as quickly as we once thought.  When we were thinking hard about this idea in Seattle, we imagined returning to Ohio and stumbling upon money and a house to buy.

Of course, things never turn out that easily.

We’re looking to rent an apartment at the beginning of October.

“How will you pay for this?” many ask.

Well, we do have jobs despite what it may look like.  We are both bringing in a meager income from our freelance work.  The good news is that both of our businesses are starting to pick up.

We will probably get part time jobs along with freelance photography and web design.  We will live on a tight budget and put whatever is left over directly toward the house.  One of our friends will be renting the apartment with us to help cut down on the cost of living.

Eventually we know we will come up with enough money to buy and rehab a house debt free.  We believe God is behind these plans.  There is no other reason that we would have voluntarily given up $62,000 a year to jump in a car and try to follow His will as best we can.

Our lives have become simpler and happier.  And I’m not just saying that to try to convince you of something.  I just know that there is no way I want to go back to the way we were living before.

I miss some things about it.  I miss the security of health insurance and a fluffy savings.  I miss having an apartment and money to go out to eat with our friends.

I don’t miss the complexity of our former lives.  I don’t miss going to work 40 hours a week to a job I didn’t particularly enjoy just so we could accumulate more stuff, whether it be savings or clothes.  I don’t miss feeling like I have to fit into society through accumulation of wealth and possessions.

I enjoy the simple freedom that comes from knowing Jesus is my savior and that He will take care of me through this life.  There is something way better than this life waiting for me.  That is what gets me through the hard times.

None of these things really matter anymore.  My life is lived because God placed me on this beautiful Earth to do His will.
