First Birthdays

A few days ago Hal turned one. I started to get a little nostalgic and sad when I thought about how it might be the last time we get to celebrate a first birthday in our family. While I’m definitely ready to move on from the baby rearing phase of life, it’s still hard to leave behind what I’ve known well for the past 14 years.

Then God reminded me that even if I don’t celebrate the first birthdays of any more of my own children, I will celebrate the first birthday of our newest little friend who will be born soon. And the first birthdays of all of my grandchildren and maybe even great grandchildren someday and it brought me great joy to think about the generations that will come after me (and also prompted me to continue leaving the best and healthiest legacy for my family that I can).
