Let Him

I started reading a book by Mel Robbins called “The Let Them Theory”. I don’t usually go for the self helpish category anymore because I figure everything I need to learn will come through the Bible or Holy Spirit, but this one piqued my interest.

I’ve only read one chapter (which is often all you need to get the gist of this type of book) but the main thesis is that Mel learned to just say “let them” about other’s choices instead of getting bothered or trying to control them.

I get the concept and generally agree that it’s better to not get all hot and bothered about what others do. However, while reading it all I could think about was that with a Kingdom worldview the correct phrase should be “let Him”

If the Lord doesn’t come in and heal the trauma and selfishness that causes me to be annoyed or controlling in the first place, I will just continue to go around the same mountain. I may be able to get over it in the moment, but what about when it inevitably happens again later? I will have to spend my life saying “let them” over and over and over again.

God is a God of redemption. When He heals, it’s all the way. That’s what I want. I want those places that carry trauma and hurt to be tended to by God’s healing balm.

I don’t want to just get over it moment by moment. I want to move forward healed and whole. That’s the only way to be effective for the Kingdom.

My pastor likes to say something along the lines of “If you don’t get healed you’ll bleed all over everyone you’re trying to help” Yikes. I’ve been there, done that, and don’t want to repeat those mistakes anymore.

So, I will move forward and in the moments that I am bothered or frustrated or saddened by other’s choices, whether it be from my children or friends, I will say “let Him”.

I will let Him come in and heal. I will let Him come in and speak to my hurt. I will see what He has to say instead of what the internet would like to tell me. I can’t ease my own pain, and certainly no one else can.

I will look to Him, and Him alone.
